ITINERARY:

DAY 1: USA / BILBAO (Saturday)

  • Fly overnight to Bilbao.

DAY 2:  WEEKEND WITH HOST FAMILIES (Sunday)

  • Welcome to Spain! Upon arrival at the airport, a Forum Tour Representative will meet you and help you transfer to your Spanish partner school.
  • Upon arrival, have a short orientation and meet your pen pals.
  • Start your exchange program. While living with a host-family, you will find out that Spanish is more than a textbook language. You will eat Spanish food, meet Spanish people and have an excellent opportunity to practice your Spanish in real-life situations.
  • Spend the rest of the day Sunday with your pen pals and their families.

DAYS 3-7: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Monday through Friday)

  • Attend school with your pen pals. Activities and workshops may be organized at the school during your visit (to be confirmed with the Spanish school).

DAYS 8-9: WEEKEND WITH HOST FAMILIES (Saturday and Sunday) 

  • Spend Saturday and Sunday with your exchange partners and their families.

DAYS 10-12: EXCHANGE PROGRAM (Monday through Wednesday)

  • Attend school with your pen pals. Activities and workshops may be organized at the school during your visit (to be confirmed with the Spanish school).

DAY 13: BILBAO / COVADONGA / CANGAS (Thursday)

  • Today depart for Covadonga, located in the impressive Picos de Europa Mountains.
    Visit its Neo-Romanesque basilica.
  • Afterwards enjoy a splendid, mountainous scenic drive to the Covadonga lakes.
  • In the afternoon, head to Cangas de Onis (Cangas), one of the main gateways to the Picos de Europa Mountains. Cangas has an impressive Roman bridge, a dolmen and the 15th century Chapel of Santa Cruz.
  • Spend some time discovering the town with your Tour Manager.
  • Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.
  • Night accommodation in Cangas.

DAY 14: RIBADEO / LUGO

  • After breakfast, board your private bus to Lugo.
  • En route stop at Playa de las Catedrales, located in Ribadeo. This beach has been declared a Natural Monument by the regional Ministry for the Environment of the Xunta de Galicia.
  • In the afternoon, continue on to Lugo and check-in at your hotel on arrival.
  • Then, meet your local guide and enjoy a guided tour of the old town and its romans walls. Lugo is the only city in the world to be surrounded by completely intact Roman walls. These 3rd century walls are protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
  • Dinner with your group at a local restaurant.
  • Night accommodation in Lugo.

DAY 15: SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

  • After breakfast, transfer by private bus to Santiago de Compostela.
    Stop at Monte Gozo and experience what it is to be a pilgrim of the famous “camino de Santiago”. Enjoy a 5km hike with your group from Monte Gozo to Santiago.
  • End your “pilgrimage route” at the Catedral de Santiago de Compostela, The cathedral is the reputed burial-place of Saint James the Great, one of the apostles of Jesus Christ. The cathedral has historically been a place of pilgrimage on the Way of St. James, since the Early Middle Ages. The building is a Romanesque structure with later Gothic and Baroque additions.
  • Have some free time for lunch.
  • In the early afternoon, visit el Mercado de abastos, built in 1941. This is the second site most visited in the city after the cathedral! Spend some time admiring its architecture and visit its stands featuring fresh fish, meat, cheeses and vegetables recently brought from the sea and the farm.
  • Continue with a visit to the Convento de San Domingos de Bonaval. Founded by St. Dominic de Guzman (who went on pilgrimage to Santiago in 1219).
  • Dinner with your group in a local restaurant.

DAY 16: DEPART

  • After breakfast, transfer to the airport in A Coruña to catch your flight back home.
