2018 AATSP CONFERENCE | Day Trip to Segovia
Date and time: Tuesday, June 26th, from 2pm – 10:30pm
Pick-up/drop-off location: Palacio de Congresos, Salamanca
Includes: Private guided tour of Segovia and the Alcazar (with entrance fees), dinner (with vegetarian option), and transportation by private motorcoach from Salamanca.
Nestled in the heart of Castilla Leon, Segovia is one of Spain´s most magical and treasured cities. Set between two rivers, the millennial city appears like a ship in the distance — its medieval Alcazar jetting from a rocky crag to form the prow, the dome of the Gothic cathedral rising above the city as the mast, and the magnificent Roman aqueduct trailing behind as the rudder.
To begin your journey, you´ll board a private motorcoach at the Palacio de Congresos in Salamanca. Upon arrival in Segovia, you´ll meet your local guide below the colossal arches of the Roman aqueduct, one of the Roman Empire´s greatest feats of engineering. Spanning from one side of the city to the other, the well-preserved aqueduct was built in the 1st Century A.D. and provided water to the city until the 19th century.
Your tour guide will take you through the winding streets of Segovia up to the Plaza Mayor to admire Segovia´s beautiful Gothic Cathedral. From there, your group will follow the city walls to the Santiago gate built in the Mudejar style and head to the city´s famed Alcazar. This fairytale-like castle was a favorite residence of the medieval monarchs and is said to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney´s castle in Sleeping Beauty. You´ll receive an extensive inside tour that includes the Throne Room, Armory and tower, which boasts a gorgeous view of Segovia´s surrounding landscapes.
Afterward, your group will dine on traditional Segovian delicacies at El Mesón Candido, including its world famous cochinillo. A favorite of the royal family, the Cándido family has hosted Kings, Queens, Emperors, Ambassadors, Nobel Prize winners, famous artists, writers, and teachers. Following dinner, board your private motorcoach and return to Salamanca.
