  • Costa Rica Travel Cultural Tour

ITINERARY:

DAY 1: USA / COSTA RICA

  • Departure to San Jose’s Juan Santa Maria International Airport
  • Your bilingual Forum Tour Manager will greet you at the airport upon arrival
  • Transfer to your hotel in La Guácima de Alajuela, a small village 18 miles northwest of San José, capital of the country. In this authentic town, people speak only Spanish and the families preserve the real “tico” lifestyle and enjoy hosting foreigners.
  • Dinner and night accommodation at Rancho Lodge (or similar).

DAY 2: SAN JOSÉ

  • Breakfast at your hotel.
  • This morning, discover San José during a Guided City Tour. Visit some of the historic neighbourhoods, busy avenues and important monuments of the capital city. You’ll be able to see some of the most popular attractions such as the Plaza de la Cultura, the Main Square and the local flea market situated at Plaza de Democracia.
  • Return to your hotel for lunch.
  • This afternoon, visit a Butterfly Farm!
  • Dinner and night accommodation at Rancho Lodge (or similar).

DAY 3: COMMUNITY WORK

  • After breakfast at the hotel, help the locals. Community work is usually done at a local school, at an orphanage, at an EBAIS (small clinics serving communities) or at a church. Community service varies depending on the needs of the community: painting, repair work, roof maintenance, and green areas. Students will be under supervision. Community service to be confirmed before departure.
  • Dinner and night accommodation at Rancho Lodge (or similar).

DAY 4: POAS VOLCANO / COFFEE TOUR

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Transfer to Poas volcano, considered the largest active crater in the world, it is about 1.6 km wide and 320 meters deep, with frequent geyser-like eruptions. Lake Botos fills an extinct crater at the end of one trail and is home to many cloud forest birds like hummingbirds, tanagers, and the quetzal.
  • Enjoy lunch with your group in a local restaurant.
  • Stop at Doka Coffee Plantation for a tour. Breathe in the aroma of freshly roasted Arabica coffee beans as the production cycle comes alive before your eyes, from seed to roasting plant.
  • Dinner and night accommodation at Rancho Lodge (or similar).

DAY 5: RAIN FOREST ADVENTURE

  • After breakfast, head to a Pineapple Plantation. This tour informs visitors about the cultivation of pineapple in harmony with nature. Our pineapple farm is in its natural state – organic plantation is certified.
  • Lunch at the hotel or Pozo Azul Restaurant with your group.
  • This afternoon, learn about the Chocolate Production Process – During the hike, the natural and cultural history of the cacao tree will be explained. Taste different kinds of chocolates, which are prepared on the spot in the traditional way.
  • Dinner and night accommodation at Selva Verde Lodge (or similar).

DAY 6:  ARENAL / CANOPY TOUR / HORSEBACK RIDING

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Transfer to Arenal area.
  • After lunch at a local restaurant, it’s time to go Horseback riding. Enjoy the most fascinating scenery in the Arenal conservation Area.
  • Next, go on a canopy tour, without a doubt a healthy release of adrenaline and an incredible immersion in nature with a panoramic view of Arenal Volcano.
  • Dinner and night accommodation at Tacotal Hotel (or similar).

DAY 7: MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Head to Manuel Antonio Area, home of one of Costa Rica’s beautiful natural parks.
  • Have lunch at your hotel.
  • This afternoon, stop at the Tarcoles River Bridge. We are not here for the beauty of the river but for the residents that live there: crocodiles!
  • Dinner and night accommodation at La Foresta Hotel (or similar).

DAY 8: MANUEL ANTONIO NATIONAL PARK

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Spend the morning in Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio. Costa Rica’s smallest national park will provide great opportunities to experience the tropical wildlife that enriches one of the country’s most beautiful and protected coastal areas.
  • Enjoy lunch in a local restaurant.
  • Have some fun in the sun with Beach Time at one of the lovely beaches the area has to offer.
  • Return to Alajuela and check in to Rancho Lodge (or similar).
  • Dinner at the hotel with your group.

DAY 9: DEPART

  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Say a fond “hasta luego” to Costa Rica and transfer to the airport for your flight back home.
